Sacramento River Cats News Release

West Sacramento, Calif. - The Sacramento River Cats shutout the Colorado Springs Sky Sox, 2-0, on Saturday night at Raley Field in a sweltering 109 degrees, the hottest recorded first pitch temperature in Raley Field history. Despite the record-high heat, 11,967 fans turned out to watch the Cats pitching staff hold Colorado Springs hitters to 2 hits, a season-low for a Sacramento opponent. Infielders Mike Rouse and Dan Johnson led the Sacramento offense, going a combined 3-for-6 with 2 runs, 2 RBI and 2 solo home runs to right field in the 3rd and 7th innings, respectively. Righty Victor Moreno earned his 4th win of the season in a near perfect 5-inning start for the Cats, allowing just 1 hit with no walks and striking out 3. Jay Witasick and Shawn Kohn combined for 4 innings of shutout relief, as Kohn earned his first save of the season and his first decision in 24 appearances this season. With the victory, the Cats move to 52-49 on the season.
