Sacramento River Cats News Release
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Three different Sacramento hitters homered, including Michael Taylor who went 2-for-5 with a grand slam and five RBI in a 10-2 River Cats win over the Colorado Springs Sky Sox on Monday Night at Raley Field.
The River Cats wasted no time in getting ahead, jumping out to an early advantage with a four-run first inning. Jemile Weeks started the action with the Cats first leadoff home run of the season, taking Sky Sox starter Cory Riordan deep for a solo blast. Michael Taylor and Shane Peterson made it 3-0, knocking home a pair of runs on RBI hits. In the second inning the Cats put the game out of reach, scoring five runs on a couple of homers. Andy Parrino started the run, adding on his fourth home run of the season with a solo blast to right field. After a couple of walks and a Michael Choice single loaded the bases, Taylor added on four more RBI to his evening total with a grand slam.
Tyler Colvin and Kent Matthes tallied the only runs of the game for Colorado Springs, knocking in a run a piece with two RBI singles. Weeks tacked on his second RBI of the night in fifth inning, driving home Adam Rosales with his 13th double of the season.
Shaeffer Hall earned the win for Sacramento in his first game since being transferred from Single-A Advanced Stockton. In 3.0 innings of relief the lefty did not allow a run while striking out three. Riordan took the loss for the Sky Sox, surrendering eight runs off of five hits and four walks in 1.1 innings on the hill.
With the win the Cats move to 14-0 when scoring at least 10 runs. The Cats have reached double digits in three of their last five games, and have plated at least six runs in eight of their last 10 contests. With five RBI on the night, Taylor added his team-leading fourth such game of the season. In total the outfielder has produced 16 multi-RBI games on the season, five ahead of Stephen Vogt for most on the team.
The River Cats return to Raley Field on Toyota Family Value Tuesday to continue their series with the Sky Sox. Left-hander Andrew Werner (8-12, 6.23 ERA) will get the nod for the Cats, with Jeff Manship (5-7, 5.25 ERA) taking the hill for Colorado Springs.
