Tacoma Topped By Tucson, 8-4

TACOMA, Wash. - A big inning spoiled the Rainiers early lead as Tacoma fell to the Tucson Padres 6-4 at Cheney Stadium on Tuesday.

The Rainiers held a 4-0 advantage and carried a no-hitter through five innings before allowing six runs on four hits in the sixth. Jaff Decker hit a two-run double and then scored on a wild pitch to bring Tucson within a run. Second baseman Dean Anna put the Padres up by a pair with a two-RBI double.

Decker and outfielder Daniel Robertson added some insurance in the top of the eighth inning after each hit solo home runs.

Tacoma's early lead first arrived thanks to a three-run inning in the second. Michael Morse led off the frame with a double and then scored on a double hit by Stefen Romero in the Rainiers next at-bat. Nate Tenbrink followed up with a two-run blast that put Tacoma up 3-0.

First baseman Rich Poythress scored the Rainiers fourth and final run on a sacrifice fly hit by outfielder Abraham Almonte in the bottom of the fifth.

Reliever Josh Kinney (0-2) was dealt the loss after surrendering all six of the Padres runs on three hits over 0.2 innings in the sixth. Starter Andrew Carraway issued five walks, struck out two and did not allow a hit over five frames in his 14th start for the Rainiers this season.

The Rainiers (57-47) host the third game of a four-game series with Tucson (55-49) at 7:05 p.m. tomorrow, July 24. Right-hander Brandon Maurer (2-4, 5.63) is slated to get the start for Tacoma against Padres right-hander Anthony Bass (2-3, 7.48).
