Sacramento River Cats News Release

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Outfielders Michael Taylor and Michael Choice each went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI, but the River Cats lost to the Las Vegas 51s by a score of 9-3 at Raley Field on Friday night.

The River Cats got out to an early lead when third baseman Scott Moore doubled-home Choice to begin the second inning. In the following frame, however, Las Vegas scored five times with the aid of two Sacramento errors. Each team scored once in the sixth inning, but the 51s put the game away scoring three times in the eighth. Taylor hit a home run to left field in the bottom of the eighth, but it wasn't enough, as the River Cats ultimately lost by a score of 9-3.

River Cats right-handed pitcher Jesse Chavez went 5.0 innings in his first start of the year, giving up five unearned runs on five hits and three walks with five strikeouts. Relievers Jordan Norberto and Mike Ekstrom combined to give up four earned runs in 2.2 innings of work before Hideki Okajima came in, holding Las Vegas scoreless in his 1.1 innings pitched.

Taylor's eighth-inning home run was his first of the season. He and Choice accounted for four of Sacramento's seven hits. Moore, Jemile Weeks and Conner Crumbliss each had one hit apiece.

Both teams finished with seven hits, but Sacramento tallied three errors to Las Vegas' zero.
