Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

RHP Steve Smith will join the Albuquerque Isotopes today from the Ogden Raptors. RHP Steve Ames will be placed on the disabled list with a left shoulder inflammation effective today, Saturday, April 6. Smith pitched at the University of New Mexico and will become the third Lobo to wear an Isotopes uniform.

The 26-year-old hurler was signed by the Dodgers as a non-drafted free agent out of the University of New Mexico in 2008. This will be the former Lobo's first stint on a Triple-A roster.

The 6-foot-2 reliever began the 2012 season at Single-A Rancho Cucamonga, compiling a 4-2 record with three saves and a 4.25 ERA in 55.0 innings out of the bullpen before advancing to Double-A Chattanooga. Smith tossed 6.2 scoreless innings for the Lookouts, surrendering just three hits and striking out five in six appearances.

In five seasons with the Dodgers organization, the righty holds a career 18-13 record with a 3.36 ERA, 252 strikeouts and 109 walks over 302.1 innings pitched. Smith will wear number 55.

The Topes will look to make it three straight as they take on Iowa in game three of a four game set tonight with a 7:05 p.m. start at Isotopes Park. RHP Blake Johnson toes the rubber against I-Cubs southpaw Brooks Raley. Listen to all of the action as Josh Suchon has the call on 610AM.
