Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - An early offensive explosion propelled the Express to a 9-3 victory over the Omaha Storm Chasers Saturday night. Round Rock scored in each of the first three innings to take a 7-1 lead and never looked back as it earned its third straight win.
The Express bats got started early with shortstop Jurickson Profar singling on a soft ground ball down the third base line. Outfielder Jim Adduci followed with a walk to put runners at first and second with one out. Profar put his wheels in motion as the two Express runners pulled off a double steal to move into scoring position with left fielder Aaron Cunningham at the dish. Cunningham tapped a ground ball down the third base line that Omaha third baseman Irving Falu let roll down the line. The ball stayed in fair territory, allowing Profar to cross the plate for the game's first run. After a strikeout, designated hitter Joey Butler's two-run, two-out double plated both Adduci and Cunningham as Round Rock jumped out to an early 3-0 lead with one inning in the books.
Omaha got one run back in the top of the second as outfielder Xavier Nady, a constant presence on the bases, singled to begin the frame and later scored on a fielder's choice by center fielder Willy Taveras. Nady has recorded a hit in each of the first three games of the series and is batting .667 (6-for-9) with two doubles and a RBI.
Round Rock picked up where it left off in the second inning as first baseman Chris McGuiness and catcher Jose Felix each walked. Outfielder Engel Beltre followed with a sharp ground ball up the middle that ricocheted off of Omaha shortstop Christian Colon's glove and into shallow center field allowing McGuiness to score from second. Following a strikeout by Adduci, Beltre stole second base and kicked catcher Brett Hayes' throw into left field, allowing Felix to score from third. Cunningham then brought Beltre home on a single to left field for the inning's third run.
McGuiness tacked on another run in the third with a two-out RBI single to extend the Express advantage to 7-1.
Starter Brad Mills turned in a strong Express outing on the hill, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits over 6.0 innings to earn the victory. Express starters have now allowed just two earned runs through the first three games of the season (16.2 IP) for a combined 1.08 ERA.
Omaha scored runs in the sixth and seventh to pull within four, but the Express put two more scores on the board in the eighth to push the lead to 9-3 entering the ninth inning.
Left-hander Nate Robertson closed out the game for the Express with a scoreless ninth to cap another solid effort by the Round Rock bullpen.
With the nine runs on the night, fans will now be able to receive half price pizza tomorrow courtesy of the Papa Johns' "No. 7 Express" promotion by using the promo code EXPRESS7.
Round Rock will be in search of the four-game sweep Sunday afternoon when they take the field for a 1:05 p.m. first pitch against the Storm Chasers. Sunday will be the first H-E-B Kids Day at Dell Diamond, featuring kiddie train rides, inflatable interactive games and a chance to run the bases following the conclusion of the game.
