Modesto, CA. - Another great performance from Ryan Castellani was not enough as the Modesto Nuts fell 3-0 against the High Desert Mavericks on Wednesday night at John Thurman Field.
Castellani (L, 1-4) worked through the seventh for the Nuts (18-28) for the fourth time in five May starts. The righty allowed just two runs on three hits but did battle a few command issues with four walks.
The Mavs (30-17) took advantage of back-to-back, two-out walks in the fourth. Jose Trevino capitalized with a RBI single. In the sixth, Luke Tendler drove in the second run against Castellani with a RBI groundout.
Cole Wiper (W, 4-1) was great for the Mavs working a season-high seven innings. Wiper K'ed a season-best seven and allowed just three hits. The best scoring opportunity for the Nuts came when Max White looped a two-out double down the leftfield line in the second. The Nuts stranded him at third.
Scott Williams (S, 3/4) tossed a scoreless ninth for the victorious Mavs.
