VISALIA, CA - The San Jose Giants knocked out 11 hits on Wednesday night, but pushed across just two runs and saw their late rally fall short in a 3-2 loss to the Visalia Rawhide at Recreation Park. The defeat was just the second in the last nine contests for San Jose (27-17), which fell one game behind Visalia (29-17) in the first half North Division race.

Ty Ross (1-for-4, HR, RBI) smacked a solo home run while Cristian Paulino (2-for-4, 2B), Ronnie Jebavy (2-for-5, SB) and Jose Vizcaino, Jr. (2-for-3) produced two hits apiece to lead the Giants offensively in the loss.

Visalia scored single runs in the first, third and fifth innings against San Jose starter D.J. Snelten to build a 3-0 lead. Rawhide starting pitcher Ethan Elias worked around five hits over six scoreless innings to begin his night before the Giants finally broke through in the top of the seventh. Ross led off the seventh inning for San Jose with an opposite field solo homer to right - his first home run of the season - to trim the Visalia lead to 3-1. Paulino followed with an infield single, but Elias prevented further damage by inducing Jebavy to ground into a double play before Brandon Bednar grounded out to end the inning.

Still down by two runs, San Jose threatened in the top of the eighth against Rawhide reliever Luis Ramirez. C.J Hinojosa led off with a single, but Ramirez then bounced back to strikeout the next two hitters, Chris Shaw and Jonah Arenado. Vizcaino was up next and he grounded a single into left to put the tying run on base. Ramirez though came back to retire Daniel Carbonell on a groundout to first to retire the side.

Bud Jeter entered from the Visalia bullpen to begin the top of the ninth and allowed a one-out double to Paulino bringing the tying run to the plate. Jebavy followed by grounding out, but Bednar then singled up the middle to score Paulino bringing the Giants to within 3-2. Hinojosa was up next, however he flied out to center ending the game.

Elias (3-3) earned the win after tossing seven innings with one run and seven hits allowed. He walked one and struck out two. Jeter notched his fourth save of the year.

The Rawhide took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first as Colin Bray singled with one out, stole second and scored on Marty Herum's one-out single into left. In the third, Herum doubled with two outs and immediately scored when the next batter, Rudy Flores, grounded a single into left. Then in the fifth, a leadoff walk and a one-out single put runners on first and second before Domingo Leyba delivered a two-out single into right for a 3-0 Visalia advantage.

Snelten (2-4) suffered the loss after yielding three runs (all earned) and a career-high 10 hits over six innings. The left-hander walked two and struck out six.
