Misiewicz's Gem Shines Brightest in Bako
May 26, 2016 - California League (CalL1)
Bakersfield Blaze News Release
The loss of one ace didn't translate into doom for the rest of the Blaze starting rotation. Anthony Misiewicz (W, 2-4) was as ruthless as anyone for Bakersfield this season in a 6-0 victory by the Blaze (20-26).
Misiewicz worked with focus and precision by limiting the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (30-17) to just two hits all evening long. The southpaw got plenty of support from his offense and the defense did a fine job by turning four double plays in the win.
Austin Wilson started the scoring off in the fourth inning with a two-out single that scored Jay Baum and Chantz Mack. Bakersfield was able to chase Felipe Gonzalez (L, 0-2) and then attack Alex Burgos in the sixth.
Like the fourth, Jay Baum started the inning off by walking this time and Kyle Petty immediately followed him with a double into the right-center field gap. With more runners in scoring position, Chantz Mack delivered yet again with a triple down the right field line to score a couple more. The lead ballooned to 4-0 until the Blaze tacked on two more to end the sixth.
On the other end Misiewicz snapped a four-game winless streak by pitching into the eighth. The left-hander cruised through 7.2 innings by striking out three and walking three after having thrown 99 pitches. Isaac Sanchez picked up for Misiewicz and retired the next three batters he faced to end the contest.
With the win, Bakersfield improves their home record to 8-14 this season and it snaps a mini two-game skid. The series finale is on Throwback Thursday for the Blaze. The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a replica Bakersfield Bears jersey prior to first pitch.
The rubber match begins at 7:30pm with Dan Besbris bringing you the action on TuneIn Radio and BakersfieldBlaze.com.
