Lake Erie Crushers News Release
AVON, Ohio -- Lake Erie second baseman Max Casper went 4-for-4 on Tuesday night at All Pro Freight Stadium, but his four hit performance was not enough, as the Evansville Otters took the first game of the series, 9-2.
The Crushers (9-13) have now lost six out of their first eight series openers, while the win for the Otters (15-6) was their sixth in their last seven games.
Evansville scored early and often to take a commanding lead in the first three innings of the contest. Nick Schwaner belted a solo homer to put the Otters on the board in the first, before they scored three times on two hits in the second. A wild pitch scored Frank Martinez who walked to start the inning, and John Schultz drove in the final two runs on a one out double.
The Otters added another in the third to take a 5-0 lead. Andrew Clark walked to start the frame, and made his way to second on Steve Marino's base hit, and he scored on Taylor Black's single to center field.
Evansville put the game out of reach with four runs in the eighth inning. C.J. Henry drove in the first run on a sacrifice fly, before Andrew Clark drove in the next two on his second double of the night, and Clark came home moments later on Martinez's base hit.
The Crushers scored their runs in the final two innings of the contest. Andrew Davis belted a run scoring single in the eighth inning to plate Seth Granger, and Casper stroked his fourth single of the night to score Daniel Bowman in the ninth inning.
Bryce Morrow (3-1) scored the victory for Otters, allowing just a run on 10 hits over eight innings, and fanned five. Alex Kaminsky (1-3) allowed five runs on five hits over two innings of work and was tagged with the loss.
Casper led the way for Lake Erie offensively again, going 4-for-4, giving him seven hits in his last eight at bats. Davis went 2-for-4 and extended his hitting streak to 12 games in the process, while both Granger and Bowman registered two hits apiece as well.
The Crushers will continue their three game series against the Evansville Otters at All Pro Freight Stadium on Wednesday night. The Crushers will start left hander Dave Middendorf (2-1, 2.54) and the Otters will start left hander Matt Crim(1-1, 4.61). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
