Boomers Fall in Trip Opener

CRESTWOOD, Ill. - The Schaumburg Boomers placed the tying run on base in the sixth but could not rally from an 8-0 deficit in a 9-5 loss to the Windy City ThunderBolts in the opener of a six-game roadtrip Tuesday night.

Windy City struck for three runs in the bottom of the first, taking the lead when the first batter of the game, Ryan Soares, homered. The ThunderBolts added two more in the frame and tacked on four in the fourth and one in the fifth against starter Mike Giovenco, who suffered the loss. Schaumburg scored five times with two outs in the sixth, using just two hits to pull within striking distance. Sean Mahley registered a three-run double in the frame. Mahley, Chad Mozingo, and Michael Valadez posted two hits each in the losing effort.

The series continues at 6:05 p.m. Wednesday night. LHP Danny Jimenez (1-2, 4.66) starts for the Boomers against RHP Travis Strong (0-3, 7.32).
