Walk off Sac Fly by Eisen Wins It

Marion, IL - With the bases loaded and no one out in the bottom of the ninth inning, Jon Eisen pinch hit for Ryan Curl and hit a sacrifice fly to score short stop Tyler Stubblefield to win the game for Southern Illinois in the bottom of the ninth inning. Miners reliever Dayne Quist earned his third victory of the season as he pitched 2/3 of an inning in the top of the ninth inning and walked one batter.

Rockford jumped out to an early 2-0 lead off Miners starter Brian Oliver in the top of the first inning. In the bottom of the first off Rockford's starter Jon Gulbransen, designated hitter Gerardo Avila hit a two out base hit to score Tyler Stubblefield to bring the Miners within one run, 2-1. Southern Illinois tied the game in the bottom of the second inning as Stubblefield hit a two out base hit to score left fielder Carlos Colmenares.

Rockford took the lead in the top of the third inning on a three run home run by right fielder Chase Larsson to give the Aviators a 5-2 lead. Southern Illinois came back within two runs as Colmenares hit a RBI ground out in the bottom of the third inning. The Miners added another run in the bottom of the fourth inning off Gulbransen with a solo home run by Tyler Stubblefield, his second of the season.

Down 5-4 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Southern Illinois scored two runs on a base hit and RBI by Ken Gregory and Gerardo Avila scoring on an error by Rockford reliever Jake Nicholson to give the Miners a 6-5 lead. Rockford tied the game in the top of the eighth inning.

Miners starter Brian Oliver pitched six innings and allowed five runs (three earned) off seven hits and two walks. He recorded a game high seven strikeouts. Michael Carden pitched 2/3 of an inning to finish the seventh inning and allowed one run (unearned) off two hits. Matt Sergey pitched 1 1/3 innings and struck out one batter.

The Miners go for the series win tomorrow night as Richard Sullivan will take the mound against Drew Rucinski of Rockford. First pitch will get underway at 7:05 pm.

The Southern Illinois Miners are the 2012 Frontier League Champions and have been awarded the Frontier League Organization of the Year three times since its inception. It has also set a new Frontier League attendance record in 2007.
