Springfield Cardinals News Release

Springfield, MO - RHP Andrew Morales, RHP Ronnie Shaban and RHP Kyle Barraclough combined to lead the Springfield Cardinals to the 1-0 shutout win against the Corpus Christi Hooks before 3,026 fans at Hammons Field on Tuesday night. With the win, the Cardinals complete the sweep of the Hooks and close the six-game homestand on a four-game winning streak.

After Springfield RHP Andrew Morales (W, 4-4) wrapped up his third straight scoreless inning to start the game, the Cardinals (7-5, 37-45) bats gave their right-hander the lead with the game's only run in the bottom of the third. Facing RHP Ruben Alaniz (L, 1-1), All-Star CF Charlie Tilson worked a one-out walk to get on. Tilson took second on a single from 3B Patrick Wisdom, before Alaniz battled back by inducing a pop out for the second out of the inning. With two on and two down, 1B Jonathan Rodriguez laced an RBI single to right-center, plating Tilson from second base to swing the Cardinals into the 1-0 lead.

Morales kept the one-run lead intact throughout the remainder of his scoreless start, limiting the Hooks to no runs on seven hits while striking out a pair. With two on and two down in the top of the sixth, he gave way to RHP Ronnie Shaban, who promptly ended the threat with a strikeout to close the scoreless sixth.

Shaban continued to deal, retiring seven straight outs through his 2.1 perfect relief innings and keeping the Cardinals in the one-run advantage through the eighth. All-Star RHP Kyle Barraclough (S, 6) took over for the top of the ninth and faced the minimum in the scoreless inning, counteracting a single with a game-ending double play turned by SS Aledmys Diaz to close the 1-0 shutout win for Springfield.

Rehabbing Houston Astros RHP Chad Qualls made the start for the Hooks and pitched one inning before giving way to Alaniz. Alaniz finished with seven one-run innings but was out-dueled by the trio of Cardinals.
