Frisco RoughRiders News Release
FRISCO, TEXAS (July 7, 2015) - The Frisco RoughRiders plated five runs in the first inning and beat the Arkansas Travelers, 9-5, on Tuesday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark. The win secured the series win against Arkansas and gave Frisco a 3-3 home stand.
Three straight singles began a big first inning for Frisco (6-6, 35-47). After Nomar Mazara brought home the first run on a ground out, J.T. Wise knocked a two-run double and the Riders led 3-0. An errant throw from the catcher allowed Wise to score and Trever Adams added a RBI single to put the Riders up 5-0.
In the third, the Travelers (5-7, 41-40) responded with a pair of runs when Blake Gailen and Wade Hinkle each collected an RBI to make it 5-2.
Ryan Cordell hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning to get one run back. However, Gailen would crush a two-run homer in the top of the fifth to cut the deficit to two. The Riders scored two runs in the seventh to go ahead 9-4 and Jefri Hernandez gave up a run in the ninth but Frisco held on for the 9-5 victory.
Chad Bell (3-9) picked up his third win of the year as he allowed four runs on 10 hits in five innings. Michael Brady (3-4) received his fourth loss, allowing six runs and 10 hits over four innings.
The RoughRiders head on the road for the next six games. The team begins a three-game set against the Northwest Arkansas Naturals on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. Frisco returns on July 15 for a four-game home stand against the Corpus Christi Hooks. The first 2,000 fans will take home a free RoughRiders Jersey Pillow on July 17 and don't miss Back to the Future Night on July 18.
