Palm Beach Cardinals News Release
JUPITER, Fla. - The Palm Beach Cardinals soared to a 7-0 shutout victory over the Jupiter Hammerheads at Roger Dean Stadium on Monday night. The Cardinals raked in 16 hits led by Colin Radack who finished with three.
Palm Beach (66-54) collected its seventh win of the season against Jupiter (57-65) to even the season series. The Cardinal victory also marked the first time Palm Beach blanked the Hammerheads in 14 meetings this season.
The Beach Birds used consistent offense and strong pitching to record the win. Luke Weaver (7-5) started on the mound and pitched 5 1/3 innings before exiting due to his pitch count. Weaver allowed only six hits and struck out seven batters without walking any Hammerheads. Jhonny Polanco, Keith Butler and Lee Stoppelman also pitched in relief for the Redbirds. Polanco only pitched a perfect 2/3 of an inning, while Butler tossed two innings allowing two hits with one walk and striking out one. Stoppleman struck out the side and gave up two walks in his only inning of work to finish the game.
Offensively, the Cardinals got on the board in the third inning with a three spot to open the scoring. Palm Beach recorded three runs on five hits in the frame with Radack delivering a one-out two-RBI single. C.J. McElroy, Casey Turgeon and Breyvic Valera also singled and scored in the inning. Valera collected an RBI as well.
The Beach Birds added another run in the fourth inning after using two singles and a hit by pitch to load the bases for Turgeon. Turgeon came through with a RBI-single to center field to extend the Cardinals advantage to 4-0.
The final three runs for Palm Beach were added in the sixth inning. Mason Katz provided the only extra-base hit of the night, a ground-rule double, to plate McElroy for the first run of the inning. With the bases loaded, Luke Voit singled to center field to score Valera and Katz to cap the scoring at 7-0.
Radack finished the night 3 for 4 with two RBIs and a walk to lead Palm Beach offensively. Turgeon, Katz, Voit, Danny Diekroeger and Robelys Reyes all added two hits each as well. Voit finished with two RBIs in the victory also.
The Palm Beach Cardinals and Jupiter Hammerheads return to Roger Dean Stadium on Tuesday night at 6:35 p.m. for game three of this four-game series.
