
Captains Take It to Hot Rods 9-5

Lake County Captains News Release
(Eastlake, OH)- Lake County bounced back on Thursday night defeating the Hot Rods 9-5. The Captains pounded out sixteen hits en route to the victory to improve to 8-7 on the year.
Captains took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning, Jason Smit began the second with a walk and single by Argenis Martinez put runners on first and third. Nick Bartolone drove in his first run of the season with a single to score Smit.
In the third, Giovanny Urshela collected one of his three hits with a lead single. Jesus Aguilar singled to put runners on first and second. Alex Monsalve doubled down the right field line to extend his hit streak to nine straight games and drive in Urshela to make it 2-0.
Lake County exploded for four runs in fourth inning to make it 6-2. Bartolone walked to lead the inning off and scored on a Carlos Moncrief triple. Tyler Cannon drove in Moncrief with a sacrifice fly to right. Alex Monsalve doubled in Urshela for second RBI of the game. Smit singled to center to drive Monsalve to cap off the scoring.
Carlos Moncrief his first homerun of the season in the fifth inning, the two-run shot to right made it 8-2 in favor of Lake County.
Smit drove in his second run of the game with a sacrifice fly to leftfield to score Monsalve to make it 9-2 after six.
Bowling Green leadoff the seventh inning, a leadoff walk by Phil Wunderlich and then a single by Nick Schwaner put two aboard. An error by third baseman Urshela allowed Wunderlich to score and a fielder's choice by Kevin Kiermaier drove in Schwaner to make it 9-4 Captains.
In the eighth inning, Dale Dickerson pitching in relief for Lake County dished up a leadoff homerun to Cody Rogers to make it 9-5.
Francisco Jimenez (2-0) picked up the win working three innings, allowing two run on two hits, walking one and striking out one. George Jensen (0-1) took the loss working three innings, allowing four runs on eight hits, walked two and struck out six. Steven Wright started the game for the Captains worked four innings allowed two runs on one hit, walked two and struck out one.
The Captains and the Hot Rods continue their three game series on Friday night from Classic Park at 7:00PM. Lake County will start RHP Mike Goodnight (1-1) against LHP C.J. Kiefenhauser (0-1) for Bowling Green. Catch all the action on AM 1330 WELW or online at captainsbaseball.com
Friday April 22nd, the first 1,000 fans will receive a limited edition baseball card commemorating the Captains no-hitter that was thrown on the Captains Opening Night on April 11 by pitchers Trey Haley, Francisco Jimenez and Clayton Ehlert. The trio of pitchers will be available in the concourse between 6:00 and 6:30 that evening signing the commemorative cards. Game time is 7 PM.
