
Kernels Hold Off Quad Cities, 4-3

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Kernels won their fourth game in a row on Thursday night by downing Quad Cities at Perfect Game Field in Cedar Rapids, 4-3. The River Bandits got the scoring started in the top of the first inning. Michael Swinson reached on an error by Jean Almanzar. Then, Greg Garcia doubled home Swinson to give the River Bandits a 1-0 lead.
The Kernels evened the score in the 1st inning. David Harris singled home Drew Heid to tie the game, 1-1. In the 2nd inning, Carlos Ramirez came home to score on a Ryan Jones infield groundout. The big blow of the ballgame came in the 6th inning. David Harris launched a two run home run over the fight field fence to give the Kernels a 4-1 lead.
The River Bandits added a run in the 7th inning. Frederick Parejo homered off of Kernels reliever Erik Gregersen to make the score 4-2 in favor of the Kernels. The River Bandits added a single run in the 9th inning off of Caleb Graham, but the Kernels held on for the 4-3 win. Brian Diemer (1-1) picked up his first win of the season for the Kernels. Diemer went six innings, allowing one run (no earned runs) on five hits. He struck out three and walked two. Gregersen went one inning, allowing one run on one hit. He struck out one and walked one.
Graham pitched two innings for his first save. He went two innings, allowing one run on one hit. He struck out one and walked none. Jordan Swagerty (1-1) took the loss for Quad Cities. He went six innings, allowing four runs on six hits. He struck out three and walked one.
