Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
BOWLING GREEN, KY - The Bowling Green Hot Rods (10-11) lost a tightly pitched game to the Lake County Captains (11-9) by a score of 1-0. RHP Eli Morgan for Lake County and RHP Austin Franklin matched each other almost pitch for pitch but the Captains got one run in the top of the seventh and that's all they needed.
Franklin pitched five innings, allowing four hits, no runs, two walks, and seven strikeouts. This was the fourth time this season that a Hot Rods starter stuck out seven batters. Morgan threw five and two-thirds innings for the Captains allowing just two hits and sending eight batters down on strikes. Morgan did not allow a base runner until 1B Devin Davis singled in the bottom of the fourth inning.
The Captains took the lead when C Jonathan Laureano hit a one out double off RHP Tobias Myers. Then 3B Tyler Friis and RF Will Benson walked to load the bases with two outs. A passed ball brought home Laureano as the Captains had the only run of the ballgame.
The Hot Rods threated in the bottom of the eighth inning when 3B Adrian Rondon lead off on a double, and advanced to third on a RF Eleardo Cabrera double. RHP James Karinchak stuck out 2B Vidal Brujan before departing the game for RHP Jonathan Teaney. Teaney walked David on four pitches but got DH Brendan McKay to ground into a double play to end the inning.
Teaney pitched the ninth inning only allowing a walk and picking up his third save of the season. Karinchak earned the win improving to 3-0 on the season and Myers took the loss falling to 1-2 on the season.
Tomorrow, the Hot Rods will look to even up the series against the Lake County Captains at 6:35pm. LHP Brendan McKay (0-0, 2.00) will be on the mound for the Hot Rods, and LHP Jiuan Hillman (0-2, 6.94) gets the nod for the Captains.
