
Cougars Drop Series Opener to Bees

Geneva, Illinois - The Kane County Cougars fell to the Burlington Bees, 7-1, in game one of a three game series at Northwestern Medicine Field on a cold Friday night.
Jasrado Chisholm tripled with one out in the bottom of the first inning. He scored on Yoel Yanqui's RBI single, giving the Cougars a 1-0 advantage. The Bees were held off the scoreboard until the fourth, but went on to score seven unanswered runs. In the top of the fourth inning Spencer Griffin and Brandon Marsh singled to start the inning. Griffin scored on Julio Garcia's RBI single. Marsh scored on a throwing error by Cougars right fielder Will Gorman. The Bees recorded four straight singles in the top of the sixth inning, scoring four times to take a 6-1 lead. Keinner Pina added an RBI single in the ninth for the Bees.
The Cougars best chance came in the bottom of the seventh inning. Bees hurler Jon Malmin walked the bases loaded with one out, but got back-to-back batters to strike out to end the threat.
Cougar starter Kevin McCanna (0-3) took the loss despite five innings of two-run ball with seven strikeouts. Carlos Bustamante was tagged for four runs (three earned) on five hits. Abraham Almonte tossed two scoreless innings. Erbert Gonzalez allowed Pina's RBI single in the ninth.
Bees' starter Mitchell Traver (3-1) earned the win. He allowed one run on five hits. Jon Malmin threw two innings of shutout ball. James Ziemba allowed just one hit in two scoreless innings out of the Burlington bullpen.
The Cougars and Bees play game two of the three-game series on Saturday afternoon. The Cougars will send right-hander Cole Stapler (1-1, 2.25) to the mound. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Buy tickets by calling 630-232-8811 or on kccougars.com.
