Lake County Captains News Release
(DAYTON, OH) - The Lake County Captains (35-31) blasted a solo, two-run and three-run home run and kept the Dayton Dragons (39-27) off the board for the second consecutive game. The Captains won 7-0 on a sunny Thursday evening at Day Air Ballpark to end the first half of the season.
Starter Mason Hickman was tested in the first inning but worked out of it impeccably. After two walks and a double, the bases were loaded, and the right-hander earned a strikeout and a fielder's choice to end the frame. In the second, third, and fourth inning, Hickman tallied two strikeouts and did not permit a baserunner. Despite two hits issued in the fifth, the 2020 fifth-round draft pick walked away unscathed after an eighth strikeout to finish his day.
The Captains provided the run support in the fifth. After Aaron Bracho and Connor Kokx reached on bases on balls, Korey Holland powered a ball over the right-center-field wall, to make it 3-0.
Lake County would continue to add runs, in the next three innings. Johnathan Rodriguez had a solo shot to right-center, his third home run of the series in the sixth and Petey Halpin with the bases loaded lifted a ball to right field to score another on a sacrifice fly in the seventh.
Connor Kokx planted the third and final home run to deep left field, on an 0-2 pitch in the top of the eighth. It was Kokx's first blast of the season and made it 7-0 with Bracho scoring.
The Captains bullpen kept Dayton off the board through the final four. Davis Sharpe accumulated four strikeouts and Jordan Jones finished the final two frames working around three walks to ensure the victory.
Lake County has taken three of the first four games and with a win tomorrow Friday, June 24 would win the series. First Pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
