Lake County Captains News Release

(DAYTON, OH) - The Lake County Captains (34-31) and Dayton Dragons (39-26) played 15 innings of baseball, with both teams getting a win, the Dragons 4-3 in game one and the Captains 3-0 in game two.

Game One

Aaron Davenport achieved his longest outing of 2022, going 5.2 innings. The Lake County starter permitted two runs and four hits in the second inning, after that Davenport worked three scoreless frames.

Offensively, Alexfri Planez continued his dominant month of June. He had a two home run game, towering a solo shot to straightaway center in the fourth and go-ahead blast in the fifth.

The Captains took a one-run lead into the sixth. Davenport allowed a double and a walk after collecting two outs. Randy Labaut would enter and a wild pitch would result in the tying run scoring from second. Labaut would toss a scoreless seventh working around two walks to push the game into the eighth.

Lake County would go down 1-2-3 in the top half of the eighth, with Naranjo who started the inning on second, was stranded. Trey Benton tried to keep the score deadlocked at three in the eighth and would retire the first two Dragons faced. After a passed ball, the runner moved into scoring position and was driven in by Nick Quintana, on a line drive into left field.

Game Two

Jaime Arias started his first game as a Captain in 2022, and allowed only two base runners, on walks through three innings.

Lake County established the lead in the top of the first, as with two outs on a 0-2 count, Jhonkensy Noel took Dayton's starter to deep left field. Noel now has 19 long balls, nine in June.

After a single and walk, Arias forced a fielder's choice that placed runners on the corners with one out in the fourth. Zach Hart entered in and got a lineout and a strikeout to strand two and keep Lake County ahead. The right-hander allowed baserunners in both the fifth and sixth, but no runs came across.

Lake County added insurance with Milan Tolentino scoring on a wild pitch in the sixth and a bases loaded walk from Mike Amditis in the seventh.

With a 3-0 lead, Jack DeGroat made his Captains debut. DeGroat the 11th round selection of the 2018 draft by Cleveland who has battled through injuries over the past three years, earned the save, retiring the Dragons 1-2-3.

Lake County will face Dayton in game four of the series, tomorrow, Thursday, June 23. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
