
Captains' Bats Go Quite in Loss

(Eastlake, OH) -The Lake County Captains were held to just two runs on nine hits during a 9-2 loss on Monday night against the Fort Wayne Tincaps. The Captains lone offense came during bottom of the second inning on Ordomar Valdez's two run homerun, his first home run of the year. Ruddy Giron banged out six hits including a homerun to pace the Tincaps.
The Tincaps took the lead with a single run in the top of the fourth inning. Franchy Cordero walked to start the inning. After stealing second base, Cordero would score on a two out single by Miguel Del Castillo.
In the bottom half of the inning, Martin Cervenka would single to start the inning. With two outs Valdez connected on his first homerun of the season, second of his career for a 2-1 Captains lead.
Fort Wayne would pull away with a four run fifth inning. The Tincaps would get RBI hits from Duanel Jones, Franmil Reyes, Chase Jensen and Del Castillo.
The Tincaps added two more in the top of the seventh inning. Trae Santos would double home Jensen who walked to start the inning. Michael Gettys then singled to score Santos. Nick Torres' RBI single would then score Grion.
Giron would complete his night with a solo homerun in the top of the ninth inning. Giron would finish the night, his first in a Tincaps' uniform, with a perfect six hit performance.
Anderson Polanco (2-4) took the loss after going 4.1 innings. He allowed four runs, all earned, on eight hits. He walked three and struck out four. Jordan Carter would then allow four runs, all earned, on seven hits. Over 2.1 innings he struck out two and walked one. Cameron Hill went 1.1 innings without allowing a hit or a run. He did not walk a batter and did not record a strikeout. Justin Garcia pitched the final inning in relief. He allowed one run, earned, on one hit. He struck out one.
The loss marks the first for the Captains in their last ten games against Fort Wayne.
The Captains and Tincaps will continue their series on Tuesday. Tuesday's is a special 1 PM start and it is Senior Day presented by Taylor Made Health Care along with Wickliffe County Place and Maple View Country Villa. Seniors will receive free coffee throughout the game and can participate in bingo games. The first 500 fans in attendance will also receive a 2015 Magnet Schedule also presented by Wickliffe County Place Maple View Country Villa.
