Baseball Across the Region Comes to Fifth Third Field Wednesday
May 18, 2015 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Dayton Dragons News Release
Dayton, Ohio - Baseball Across the Region, a celebration of All-Star Summer in Cincinnati, comes to Fifth Third Field Wednesday, May 20.
Launched in February, the official baseball will travel throughout the region highlighting the treasured neighborhoods, schools, businesses and community attractions across Reds Country to generate excitement and enthusiasm for the 86th MLB All-Star Game on July 14th at Great American Ball Park.
The ball will end its journey at the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame & Museum, becoming an official part of Reds baseball history.
The ceremony stems from the tradition of the passing of the Olympic Torch in anticipation of the Olympics.
Baseball fans from the Miami Valley are invited to take part in the historic event when the Dragons host the Great Lakes Loons on Wednesday, May 20 at 7:00 p.m. at Fifth Third Field. For ticket information, call the Dragons Box Office at (937) 228-2287.
Fans are encouraged to use #BATR on Twitter.
The "Baseball Across the Region" Ceremonial Display was created by Sterling Cut Glass. The crystal piece weighs over 15 pounds and measures over 11 inches high. It features 30 etched stars around its base representing each of the 30 MLB teams. Crowning the display are five three-dimensional stars, one for each year the Cincinnati Reds have hosted the All-Star Game. The official BATR sits in the center of the piece.
Formed in 2014 in partnership with the Cincinnati Reds and the Cincinnati USA Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Community Organizing Committee is an all-volunteer group made up of more than 200 area residents. Ceremonies have taken place at the Xavier University/University of Cincinnati Crosstown Shootout and the Diversity in Baseball exhibit at the Freedom Center in Cincinnati.
