'Caps Find Their Stroke, Hammer Lansing

LANSING, MI- The West Michigan Whitecaps pounded out twelve hits for eight runs in their 8-3 victory over the Lansing Lugnuts at Oldsmobile Park on Wednesday night. Whitecaps' pitchers Brayan Villarreal and Victor Larez were solid on the mound as the 'Caps have taken two of the first three games in the series. Eight of the nine 'Caps' starters got a hit.

West Michigan tallied a couple of runs in the second inning for a 2-0 lead. Alden Carrithers produced an RBI groundout, and Luis Salas had an RBI single.

With the score tied 2-2, the top of the fourth was the key point in the game. Eight 'Caps came to the plate for four runs as Ronnie Bourquin highlighted the inning with a two-out, two-run double.

The Whitecaps would add to their 6-3 lead in the fifth with a run on Gustavo Nunez's second sacrifice lfy of the night.

Ben Guez scored on Luis Salas' ground ball that was ruled an error in the sixth for the final Whitecaps' run and an 8-3 advantage.

Brayan Villarreal was solid for the win going 5 innings and striking out eight. Villarreal walked 4 and allowed 3 earned runs on four hits.

Reliever Victor Larez for the 'Caps earned a rare, four-inning save. Larez now has 3 saves on the season.

Brent Wyatt, Ronnie Bourquin, Jordan Lennerton, and Joe Bowen all had 2 hits for the Whitecaps.

Gustavo Nunez and Ronnie Bourquin each had 2 RBI.

The Whitecaps go for the series win on Thursday night in game four. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. ET from Oldsmobile Park in Lansing.
