MADISON, WI - The Madison Capitols, a member of the United States Hockey League, picked 11 players, including forward Ryan O'Reilly in the first round, fourth overall, in Phase I of the 2016 USHL Draft on Monday.
O'Reilly, 16, played in 30 games for Dallas Stars U16 of the Tier 1 Elite Hockey League. The right wing led the Stars with 14 goals and finished fourth on the team with 22 points (14-8=22) during the 2015-16 season. O'Reilly was also the only player on his team to not collect any penalty minutes during the season. The 6-foot, 183-pound forward recorded five points (3-2=5) and two penalty minutes in four playoff games. O'Reilly is committed to the University of Nebraska-Omaha for the 2019-20 season.
The Capitols chose forward Devlin McCabe in the second round, 20th overall, in Phase I. McCabe, 15, finished the 2015-16 season in fourth place at St. Paul Academy of United States High School with 33 points (9-24=33), and led the team with 50 penalty minutes in 20 games. The 5-foot-10, 165-pound forward is a native of North Oaks, Minnesota.
In addition to O'Reilly and McCabe, the Capitols drafted forwards Landon Langenbrunner (third round, 36th overall), Kevin Wall (third round, 42nd overall), Luke Loheit (fourth round, 52nd overall), Parker Storck (ninth round, 132nd overall), and Jack Michels (tenth round, 148th overall), goaltender Isaiah Saville (fifth round, 68th overall), and defensemen Hunter Carrick (sixth round, 84th overall), Christian Felton (seventh round, 100th overall), and Dane Stoyanoff (eighth round, 116th overall).
Langenbrunner's father, Jamie, played in parts of 18 seasons in the NHL with the Dallas Stars, New Jersey Devils, and St. Louis Blues. He was a member of the Stanley Cup Champion Dallas team in 1999 and New Jersey team in 2003.
Storck is a native of Madison, Wisconsin, and Michels, a native of DeForest, Wisconsin, played for the AAA Madison Capitols U16 team at Bob Suter's Capitol Ice Arena last season.
"We are excited to see these future Madison Capitols at our camp in June working to achieve their goal of playing in the USHL," said Capitols Chairman Ryan Suter following Phase I of the Draft.
Phase II of the 2016 USHL Draft begins at 8:00 a.m. (CT) on Tuesday, May 3, 2016.
