Charlotte Checkers News Release
RALEIGH, NC - Ron Francis, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has activated center Eric Staal from injured reserve, making him eligible to play in tonight's game in Vancouver. Francis also announced that forward Patrick Brown has been reassigned to the American Hockey League's Charlotte Checkers.
Staal, 29, suffered an upper-body injury against the New York Islanders on Oct. 11, and has missed the Hurricanes' last five games. The Thunder Bay, Ont., native had two points (1g, 1a) in two games this season prior to the injury. Carolina's captain since the 2009-10 season, Staal holds more than 20 franchise records and has led the team in scoring seven of the last 10 seasons, including last year.
Brown, 22, made his NHL debut with Carolina on Oct. 10, and has averaged 8:52 of ice time while playing in all seven of the Hurricanes' games this season. The Bloomfield Hills, MI, native has also appeared in two AHL games for Charlotte. In 2013-14, Brown (6'1", 210 lbs.) scored 15 goals and earned 15 assists (30 points) in 40 games during his senior season at Boston College. The son of two-time Stanley Cup-champion Doug Brown, he is in his first professional season after having signed with the Hurricanes as a free agent on April 12, 2014.
The Hurricanes conclude their five-game road swing on Tuesday at Rogers Arena against the Vancouver Canucks (10 p.m. ET, FOX Sports Carolinas, Hurricanes Radio Network). The team returns to Raleigh on Wednesday, and will host the Arizona Coyotes and Los Angeles Kings in back-to-back home games on Saturday and Sunday.
