The Worcester Sharks (4-1-1-0, 9pts) chomped three out of a possible six points last week (1-1-1-0) as they continued their season long six game home stand at the DCU Center. The Sharks began the week with their first loss of the season in a 5-4 defeat to the Hartford Wolf Pack on Tuesday. Worcester grabbed a point in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Crunch on Friday before wrapping up the week with a 4-1 victory over the Portland Pirates on Sunday afternoon.

Worcester sits on top of the Atlantic Division with nine points (4-1-1-0) and have the second best winning percentage in the Eastern Conferenced (.750).

Highlights from the week include a third period natural hat trick from Freddie Hamilton in the Sharks 4-1 victory over the Portland Pirates on Sunday. Click HERE to watch the hat trick. Daniil Tarasov (0-3-3) and Evan Trupp (1-2-3) also added three points in Sunday's win. Troy Grosenick posted a 1-1-0-0 record in net last week as he has started all six games for the Sharks this season. Petter Emanuelsson scored his team high 4th goal of the season late in the third period to force overtime vs. the Crunch on Friday. Melker Karlsson put up three points (1-2-3) and Micheal Haley added two (1-1-2) on Tuesday in the Sharks 5-4 loss to the Wolf Pack.

James Sheppard was recalled by the San Jose Sharks on Oct 20 after appearing in two games (0-1-1) for the Worcester Sharks on a conditioning loan. Eriah Hayes was returned to Worcester from San Jose on Oct 24 after appearing in four games (0-0-0) for the SJ Sharks. Stanley Cup Champion Tyler Kennedy was loaned to Worcester from San Jose on Oct 27 on a conditioning assignment and the Sharks signed Tyler Shattock to a PTO from the Stockton Thunder.

The Worcester Sharks player of the week nominee is forward Freddie Hamilton. The 22-year-old from Toronto, Ontario recorded a natural hat trick within a 5:12 span early in the third period in the Sharks 4-1 win vs. the Pirates on Sunday. Freddie finished the three game week with four points (3-1-4) and fired nine shots.

Head Coach Roy Sommer surpassed Frank Mathers (1256 games coached) for the most games coached in AHL history on March 26 in the Sharks 5-3 win in Lewiston, ME over the Portland Pirates. Coach Sommer has coached 1274 AHL games - all with the SJ Sharks AHL affiliates. In total, Coach Sommer has been a head coach in 1,608 games in the AHL and ECHL. Roy need 9 more wins to tie John Paddock (589) for the 3rd most wins in AHL history.

The Worcester Sharks (3-1-0-0, 6pts) allowed a late goal by Mat Bodie as the Hartford Wolf Pack (3-0-1-0, 7pts) took a 5-4 victory in front 1,488 fans at the DCU Center on Tuesday evening. Melker Karlsson (1-2-3) and Micheal Haley (1-1-2) each had multiple point games for the Sharks in a see-saw affair. Worcester led 1-0, trailed 2-1, and trailed 4-2, before tying the score with two quick goals early in the third period. Petter Emanuelsson and Taylor Fedun also scored for Worcester while Troy Grosenick allowed five goals on 27 shots in the first loss of the season. Rookie defenseman Mat Bodie scored the game winner with 18 seconds left in the third period as Danny Kristo had a three point game (1-2-3) for the Wolf Pack. Hartford goaltender Jason Missiaen picked up the win in the relief of an injured Cedric Desjardins as the Sharks fell to 1-1-0-0 during their season long six game home stand which continues on Friday night at 7:30pm vs. the Syracuse Crunch.

10.24.14 - Syracuse 3 - Worcester 2 - OTL - DCU Center - Worcester, MA

The Worcester Sharks (3-1-1-0, 7pts) fell to 1-1-1-0 on their season long six game home stand following a 3-2 overtime loss to the visiting Syracuse Crunch (3-1-1-0, 7pts) in front 2,198 fans at the DCU Center on Friday evening. Konrad Abeltshauser and Micheal Haley scored for Worcester while Troy Grosenick made 30 saves in net in his 5th consecutive start in the overtime loss. Dalton Smith and Mike Angelidis scored in regulation for the Crunch before Nikita Nesterov won the game with a power play goal at 5:08 of overtime while Kristers Gudlevskis made 26 saves in net.

10.26.14 - Portland 1 - Worcester 4 - W - DCU Center - Worcester, MA

The Worcester Sharks (4-1-1-0, 9pts) improved to 2-1-1-0 on their season long six game home stand following a 4-1 victory over the visiting Portland Pirates (2-5-0-0, 4pts) in front 2,559 fans at the DCU Center on Sunday afternoon. Freddie Hamilton scored his first three goals of the season, all within a 5:12 stretch early in the third period to lead the way offensively. Daniil Tarasov (0-3-3) and Evan Trupp (1-2-3) also added three points while Troy Grosenick made 28 saves in net for the victory. Evan Oberg scored the only Pirates goal while Mike McKenna allowed three goals on 34 shots in the loss.

Sharks in the Atlantic:

The Worcester Sharks (4-1-1-0, 9pts in 6gp) are in 1st place in the Atlantic Division; which is percentage points ahead the 2nd place Bruins (9pts in 7gp), percentage points ahead of the 3rd place IceCaps (9pts in 9gp), three points ahead of 4th place Monarchs (6pts in 5gp), and five points ahead of the 5th place Pirates (4pts in 7gp) to round out a very choppy Atlantic Division.

*Deja-Vu (almost).... Dylan Demelo scored at 6:33 of overtime on Oct 18.... Exactly one week after defenseman Matt Taormina scored at 6:34 of overtime on Oct 11.

*Breaking down the roster.... The Sharks opening roster featured 11 Americans, nine Canadians, two Swedes, one German, and one Russian.

*Oh boy...Troy in the Shootout!.... goaltender Troy Grosenick went 6-0 last season in the shootout - tied for most shootout wins in the AHL.... Troy stopped 25 of 28 shootout attempts (.892%) and was the only goalie to have at least six wins in the shootout without a shootout loss!

*3 National Champions... The Sharks have three players that won the NCAA Division 1 Championship.... Gus Young was captain with Yale University in 2013....Travis Oleksuk with University Minnesota Duluth in 2011...Bryan Lerg with Michigan State in 2007.

*Memorial Cup... rookie defenseman Konrad Abeltshauser won the Memorial Cup in 2013 with the Halifax Mooseheads (QMJHL) and was named to the 2013 Memorial Cup All-Star Team.

*Swedish Elite League Championship.... both Melker Karlsson and Petter Emanuelsson won back-to-back championships with Skelleftea AIK in the SWEHL in 2013 and 2014.

*Young Guns... the Sharks have dressed 5 rookies already this season. (Ryan Carpenter, Jeremy Langlois, Evan Trupp, JP Anderson, and Gus Young)

*Tallest Shark.... Worcester Sharks rookie defenseman Taylor Doherty is the tallest player in team history standing at 6'8" 235lbs.... Doherty has six goals, 28 assists, and 260 penalty minutes in 181 games with the Worcester Sharks. Taylor has yet to make his NHL debut.

*First Pro Goals this season... Ryan Carpenter scored his 1st pro goal (Andrew Hammond) in 3-2OTW at Binghamton on Oct 11.

*Sharks in the Atlantic... went 21-22-1-2 vs. the Atlantic in 2013-14 and are 3-0-0-0 in divisional play this season.

*Massachusetts!... the Sharks have one player that hails from Massachusetts this season (Gus Young - Dedham).

*Keeping your hat on (Thanks Ballou)... Worcester had gone 263 games without one of its players recording a hat trick before Daniil Tarasov scored three goals in Springfield on Oct 26. That was easily the longest active streak in the AHL. The Sharks' last hat trick had belonged to Dan DaSilva, who scored three times in Manchester during a 5-2 Worcester victory in Manchester on Feb. 14, 2010. Freddie Hamilton scored the first home hat trick in 206 games with three goals in a 5:12 span in the third period in a 4-1 win over the Pirates on Oct 26, 2014. It was the first home hat trick since P.J. Fenton had one on Feb. 28, 2009 in the Sharks' 7-3 victory over Springfield. In all, Worcester players have recorded hat tricks only ten times in the franchise's 634 games. The Sharks are 10-0 in those games and 1-15-3 in the 19 games in which the opposition has had a hat trick.

* Brothers... Freddie Hamilton is the older brother of Dougie Hamilton, who currently plays with the Boston Bruins.... Rylan Schwartz is the younger brother of Jayden Schwartz, who currently plays for the St. Louis Blues.

Bonneau has set the Worcester Sharks record for most fighting majors in a season in 2011-12 with 22, surpassing Frazer McLaren (21 in 2008-09).
