Campbell Solid But Bees Walk-Off in 9th, 5-4

Burlington, IA - The Clinton LumberKings (4-8, 34-46) battled to a tie on two different occasions against the Burlington Bees (8-5, 46-36) Wednesday night, but Ismael Dionicio gave the Bees a walk-off victory, doubling in Ranyelmy Mendoza in the bottom of the ninth at Community Field.

Like Tuesday night, Clinton jumped in front early, scoring one run in the first inning. Chantz Mack drew a two-out walk and Justin Seager doubled into the right-field corner, scoring Mack from first base.

The score remained in Clinton's favor until the bottom of the third. Eddie Campbell, attempting to pick up his first win in over a month, allowed a leadoff double to Angel Rosa and then walked Mike Fish before giving up Eric Aguilera's 11th home run of the season - a three-run bomb to right.

Down 3-1, Clinton tied the game in the fifth inning on Jack Reinheimer's two-run double to left. Luis Caballero - just called up from Everett - and Aaron Barbosa scored on the play, but the Bees continued the back-and-forth scoring with one run in the sixth.

Ryan Dalton opened the frame with a single and on Cambric Moye's double to right-center, attempted to score from first. Clinton center fielder Isaiah Yates fielded the one-hop drive off the wall and began an 8-6-2 relay that hosed Dalton at the plate. But one out later, Erick Salcedo doubled in Moye, giving Burlington a 4-3 lead.

Entering the game, when trailing after six innings, the L'Kings held just a 4-35 record. And that record saw another loss added to it.

Clinton tied the game in the eighth thanks to three singles, the last two coming with two outs. Christian Carmichael led off with a single and after newcomer Brett Thomas and Caballero both struck out looking, Barbosa and Reinheimer knocked clutch two-out singles, tying the game at four.

Another newcomer -- Kevin McCoy -- dominated the Bees in the eighth, striking out two in a 1-2-3 inning. But in the ninth, the 2013 24th rounder ran into trouble following a leadoff walk to Mendoza. Salcedo sacrificed Mendoza to second and McCoy intentionally walked Kody Eaves to get to Dionicio. Down in the count 0-and-1, Dionicio lined a double over Mack to the wall in right-center, handing the LumberKings their seventh walk-off loss of the season.

Barbosa extended his hitting streak to a season-high nine games while Mack's single in the third inning pushed his to a season-high eight.

Clinton and Burlington wrap up their three-game series Thursday evening at Community Field. The L'Kings will send right-hander Carlos Misell (6-8, 4.42) to the mound against Bees right-hander Victor Alcantara (4-4, 4.24). First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM CT.
