
Kernels Homestand Preview: July 4-10

Your Cedar Rapids Kernels return to Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Friday, July 4th for a six-game, seven-day home stand with games against Beloit and Wisconsin. Here's a preview of what you can expect these next six games:
July 4-6 vs. Beloit
The Kernels host the Beloit Snappers, the Midwest League affiliate of the Oakland Athletics, in a three game series starting July 4th.
A HUGE night is on tap for Friday, July 4th when the Kernels take on the Beloit Snappers at 5:05 pm. You'll want to be here when the gates open at 3:30 pm as the first 1,000 fans receive a set of Military Heroes Baseball Cards. Those heroes and families in attendance at the game will be recognized on the field following the game. The Kernels will wear special patriotic jerseys that will be sold via a silent auction with the proceeds to benefit Stand Down for Veterans. Midwest Dueling Pianos will be on hand to entertain fans during and after the game. Also, kids and adults are welcome to come down and play catch on the field following the game until our FIREWORKS show starts approximately 9:45 pm. The stadium's fireworks will coordinate with the Cedar Rapids Freedom Festival Fireworks show and fans are welcome to stay and watch the remainder of that show from the stands. Tickets for fireworks night are ALWAYS in high demand and as of this press release, only tickets in the Plaza and Lawn section remain for Friday's game. Tickets may be purchased by calling the Kernels Ticket Office at 896-7560, or on-line at www.kernels.com.
Another big night is on tap for Saturday, July 5th. First, it's Quilting for Veterans Night - the Quilting for Veterans Group will conclude their raffle for a quilt as the drawing will be held during the 7th inning of the game. Raffle tickets are $1 each and can be purchased at Friday and Saturday's game and proceeds from the Quilt Raffle will benefit Linn County Veterans Affairs. Also, there will be a special presentation to the Metro Veterans Council of quilts made by this group. It's another post-game FIREWORKS night. Fireworks nights are VERY popular, so contact the Kernels Ticket Office at 896-7560, or order tickets on-line at www.kernels.com to get the best seats. The game will be broadcast LIVE by KCRG 9.2. Gates open at 5:30 pm and the Kernels take on Beloit at 6:35 pm.
The home stand continues on Sunday, July 6th. It's a Planet X Run the Bases Sunday, where fans can run the bases and play catch in the outfield, and get autographs from the Kernels players on the field after the game. Fans can play Travel Advisors Baseball Bingo for a chance to win a trip to Minneapolis and see a Twins game in 2014. It's also a New Belgium Brewing Bike to the Ballpark Day. Fans are encouraged to ride their bikes to the game and park in the secure area inside the main gates. Fans that ride their bikes can register to win tickets to the New Belgium Brewing Pavilion Outing in August. Enjoy the balloon artistry of Papa Balloon, face painting by Kennedy and magician Jackson Green on the concourse during the game. Caricature artist Alison Bennett will be at the game. Gates open at 1:00 pm and first pitch between the Kernels and Beloit is set for 2:05 pm.
July 8-10 vs. Wisconsin
The Kernels conclude the six game home stand with a three game series against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, the Midwest League affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers starting Tuesday, July 8th.
The home stand kicks off with Twins Tuesday, presented by Great Clips, on Tuesday, July 8th. Get a buy one ticket, get one free offer when fans bring the special Twins Tuesday coupon to the Kernels Ticket Office. The Kernels will wear special retro jerseys that will be sold via a silent auction at the end of the season and one lucky fan will win a pair of Twins tickets to a game during the 2014 season. The Kernels welcome special guests from Dance Nation and the Al Smith League of Dreams to the game. Gates open at 5:30 pm and first pitch between the Kernels and Wisconsin is set for 6:35 pm.
You'll want to be here when the gates open at 5:30 pm on Wednesday, July 9th as it's First Federal Credit Union Free Money Wednesday. First Federal Credit Union will give away $500 at every Wednesday home game with the top cash prize of $100. The Kernels will recognize members of the Cedar Rapids Baseball Hall of Fame Class of 2014 in a ceremony before the game, along with members of the 1961 Cedar Rapids Braves team that are in attendance at the game. First pitch between the Kernels and Timber Rattlers is set for 6:35 pm.
The home stand wraps up on Thursday, June 10th with Tribute to Corn Night. The first 1,000 fans through the gates receive a FREE Kernels Corn Water Bottle. There will be extra concession specials as fans can purchase Grilled Sweet Corn for $1, prepared by Hy-Vee, and get six mini corn dogs for $2 at the concession stands. It's a Z 102.9 Thirsty Thursday where 12 oz. regular draft beer, along with 20 oz. bottled soda and water are just $2 all game. Fans can also get $1 off margaritas at the Hacienda Las Glorias / La Cantina Mexican Cart. And, it's Little Caesar's College Night - fans that show a college ID at the Kernels Ticket Office can get a Club ticket and two slices of Little Caesar's Pizza for just $7. Gates open at 5:30 pm and first pitch between the Kernels and Timber Rattlers is set for 6:35 pm.

Run the Bases Sunday, sponsored by Planet X: After every Sunday home game, kids (and adults) can run the bases, play catch on the field and get autographs from the Kernels, sponsored by Planet X with media sponsor 104.5 KDAT. The Kernels Ticket Office is open from 10 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday and from 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday. The ticket office is closed on Sunday, but opens at 11 am on Kernel Sunday Home games.
