
Campbell goes 3-for-5 with 5 RBI in 12-11 win over Rock Cats

Manchester, NH- Scott Campbell went 3-for-5 with a career-high five RBI, including a two-run single in the bottom of the eighth inning that lifted the New Hampshire Fisher Cats to a wild 12-11 victory over the New Britain Rock Cats before 5,604 fans at Merchantsauto.com Stadium on Friday night.
Kyle Phillips went 4-for-4 with three runs scored and Ryan Klosterman went 4-for-5 with three runs scored as New Hampshire (11-22) snapped a three-game losing streak and took the opener of a four-game series.
Jamie Vermilyea (2-0) allowed a two-out, three-run home run to Dustin Martin (2-for-3, HR, 4 RBI, 2 BB, 2 R) in the top of the eighth inning that gave New Britain (19-14) an 11-9 lead, but the right-hander earned the win when the Fisher Cats rallied for three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning against losing pitcher Armando Gabino (3-2).
Mike Gallo pitched a perfect ninth inning to notch his second save.
The Rock Cats took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning when David Winfree (2-for-5, 2 HR, 4 RBI) hit the first of his two home runs on the night, a three-run blast off Ricky Romero that scored Martin (walk) and Brock Peterson (single).
Facing New Britain starter Oswaldo Sosa, Campbell grounded into a fielder's choice grounder in the bottom of the second inning to score Phillips, trimming New Britain's lead to 3-1.
The Fisher Cats scored four more runs off Sosa in the bottom of the fourth inning. With one out, Phillips singled, Klosterman doubled and Brian Jeroloman (2-for-2, 2 R, RBI, 3 BB) drove in Phillips with a single. Campbell followed with a two-run triple to right field, giving New Hampshire a 5-3 lead.
The Fisher Cats tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning against reliever Jay Sawatski to take an 8-3 lead. Anthony Hatch (0-for-2, 3 BB, R) walked and scored when Ryan Patterson (1-for-5, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R) belted his second home run of the season off the facing of the Samuel Adams Bar and Grill in left field. Phillips, Klosterman and Jeroloman hit consecutive singles. Two outs later, Travis Snider (1-for-3, 2B, 2 RBI, 3 BB) drew a bases-loaded walk.
The Rock Cats drew to within 8-4 when Winfree launched his second home run of the game off Romero in the top of the sixth inning that cleared the right field wall.
New Britain rallied for three more runs in the top of the seventh inning. Toby Gardenhire (1-for-3, BB) walked, Drew Butera (2-for-4, 2B, RBI, 2 R) singled and Steve Tolleson (2-for-4, 3B, 2 RBI, 2 R) tripled them both home. Martin drove in Tolleson with a single, cutting the Fisher Cats' lead to 8-7.
Snider's RBI double in the bottom of the seventh inning gave New Hampshire a 9-7 lead.
New Britain took an 11-9 lead in the top of the eighth inning on Butera's RBI double off Sean Stidfole and Martin's three-run shot off Vermilyea.
The Fisher Cats and Rock Cats play the second game of their four-game series Saturday afternoon at 1:05pm. Left-hander Brett Cecil (0-1, 4.70) pitches against New Britain right-hander right-hander Yohan Pino (1-1, 2.32).
