Calgary Hitmen Unveil Plans for 'Bret the Hitman Hart Night'
October 3, 2019 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Calgary Hitmen News Release
Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen Hockey Club today announced they will host 'Bret the Hitman Hart Night' on Saturday, November 2 in support of the Calgary Prostate Cancer Centre.
The Hitmen will honour their namesake, Bret Hart, during the 7:00 p.m. game against the Saskatoon Blades by highlighting Hart's wrestling legacy, commitment to the Calgary Prostate Cancer Centre and longstanding relationship with the team.
"It means so much to me that the Calgary Hitmen have chosen to honour me and also help raise awareness for a cause I care very deeply about," said Bret Hart. "I've always had a very enjoyable relationship with all the people I've worked at the Hitmen. I found from the very beginning that hockey people are good people in all respects and upon selling the team, my biggest concern was the fear of losing that. My love and respect for the team, the Flames management and especially the fans has only grown tenfold in the last 25 years. I still remember how it was said that Junior hockey would never survive in an NHL city. Boy were they wrong."
The game will highlight how fans can help Bret pin Prostate Cancer including a photo opportunity with Bret 'The Hitman' Hart at the pre-game photo booth with all proceeds going to Calgary Prostate Cancer Centre. A special $15 ticket with $5 going directly back to Calgary Prostate Cancer Centre is available by going to the event page at http://www.prostatecancercentre.ca/bret-the-hitman-hart-night/. The Man Van will also be on location promoting men's health.
As a tribute to the legendary professional wrestler, the Hitmen and the Prairie Wrestling Alliance will host a post-game wrestling card that is FREE with a game ticket. A wrestling ring will be set up on the ice for a four match 'Battle in the Dome' with a special career retrospective live on the Energy Board. PWA wrestlers will be on the concourse during the first and second intermissions meeting fans.
"On behalf of everyone at PWA, we are extremely proud to team up with the Calgary Hitmen to present 'Battle in the Dome' and are excited to be the first independent wrestling promotion to ever perform in the historic Scotiabank Saddledome," said Kurt Sorochan, Co-Owner and Promoter of PWA Wrestling. "For almost 19 years, the Prairie Wrestling Alliance has been carrying on the tradition of professional wrestling with passion and respect that our predecessors, the Hart Family, did with Stampede Wrestling."
On Saturday, October 5, fans can join members of the Calgary Hitmen at the PWA event at 7:30 p.m. at Cedarbrae Community Centre where they will announce the matches for the 'Battle in the Dome' tribute card.
More game details will be announced during the coming weeks.
