Ryder Thompson to Represent Team Manitoba at WHL Cup

Winterhawks signed defenseman Ryder Thompson was named on the Under-16 Team Manitoba roster that will be competing at the 2019 WHL Cup in Calgary, Alberta later this month. The team's first game is scheduled on October 23, 2019.

The Winterhawks drafted Thompson in the fifth round, 105th overall, of the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft, becoming the first defenseman selected by the team. The Russell, Manitoba product played for RINK Hockey Academy Bantam Prep and finished second on the team in scoring with 23 points in 29 games.

Upon finishing his first Neely Cup Training Camp in Portland in early September, Thompson signed a WHL Standard Player Agreement with the Winterhawks. Thompson got his first taste of the WHL when he laced up for two preseason games in Everett, Washington.

TEAM MANITOBA U-16 ROSTER Thompson was one of twenty Manitoba-based players to make the final roster after three separate scouting events took place earlier this year. Eighteen of the 20 players representing Team Manitoba were selected in the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft.
