JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Edward Cabrera struck out 11 batters in six innings and the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth but ultimately fell short to the Durham Bulls 5-1 Friday night at 121 Financial Ballpark.
Durham (19-21) took the early lead in the top of the first and never looked back. Miles Mastrobuoni (3) led off the game with a solo home run against Cabrera (L, 1-2).
The Bulls added one run to their total in the top of the fourth. Jonathan Aranda led off with a single and two batters later went to third on a single by Ford Proctor. During the at-bat of Jim Haley, a passed ball allowed Aranda to score as Durham took a 2-0 lead.
Tristan Gray (10) led off the fifth inning with a solo home run as Durham padded their lead to 3-0.

Durham continued to shut down Jacksonville (21-19) but kept the offense going in the top of the ninth with two more runs. René Pinto led off the inning with a double. Proctor grounded out, allowing Pinto to advance to third. In the following at-bat, Jim Haley and Gray worked back-to-back walks to load the bases. After a strikeout, Joe Hudson drove in a pair with a single to push the Bulls' lead to 5-0.
The Jumbo Shrimp finally broke through against Durham pitching in the bottom of the ninth. Lewin Díaz, Lorenzo Quintana, and Nick Fortes walked to start the inning. With the bases loaded, Demetrius Sims knocked a base-hit that scored Díaz putting Jacksonville on the board, 5-1.
