
C Montero placed on temporary inactive list

(Norwich, CT)- The Trenton Thunder, Double-A Affiliate of the New York Yankees, have announced that C Jesus Montero has been placed on the Temporary Inactive List to participate in the XM Futures Game as part of the All-Star Game festivities in St. Louis, MO. C Ryan Baker has been transferred from Staten Island (SS) to Trenton to take Montero's spot on the roster.
Montero has a .287 BA with five home runs and 15 RBI in 29 games with the Thunder since his call-up from Tampa (High-A) on June 3rd. He has hit in 21 of his 29 games with the Thunder. Montero hit home runs in four consecutive games (6/28-7/2). He was also a late addition to the Eastern League All-Star Game on July 15th. Montero entered the 2009 season as the second best prospect in the Yankees Minor League System according to Baseball America. He hit .356 in 48 games for Tampa with eight home runs and 37 RBI. At the time of his promotion, Montero was leading the Florida State League in hitting, first in extra-base hits (24), first in slugging (.583), fourth in on-base percentage (.406), tied for second in doubles (15), tied for third in home runs, and tied for third in RBI.
In 2008, he hit .326 with 17 home runs and 87 RBI for Charleston (Low-A) in the South Atlantic League. He led the South Atlantic League in hits and ranked third among all Single-A batters in hits. He was selected to the mid-season All-Star team and the South Atlantic League's post-season All-Star team. He was signed by the Yankees as a non-drafted free agent on 10/17/06. Baker has played in four games this season with Staten Island (SS). He is 2 x 10 with a run, double, and two walks. He split the 2008 season between the GCL Yankees and Tampa (High-A). He appeared in two games for Tampa (2 x 7). He hit .077 in 10 games for GCL Yankees. He was signed as non-drafted free agent on 6/12/08.
Trenton continues its four-game series against the Connecticut Defenders (Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants) on Saturday night with the second game of the four-game series. RHP Zach McAllister (5-4, 1.87) will start for Trenton against Connecticut RHP Tim Alderson (5-1, 2.59). Game time is set for 6:35 p.m.
