New Britain Rock Cats News Release

New Britain, CT - Erik Lis carried his hot-hitting from yesterday into Saturday night's game, going 3-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI to backup a strong starting performance by Yohan Pino as the Rock Cats shutout Binghamton, 5-0.

Pino (4-1) tossed six scoreless innings and struck out a season-high eight - one short of his career single-game high - including striking out the final four batters he faced. He allowed six hits and hit one batter but escaped each inning unharmed.

The Rock Cats jumped out to an early lead when leadoff man Brandon Roberts started the bottom of the first off lined a base hit into center field. Roberts stole second with one out before he came around to score on a two-out single to left by Lis. Binghamton starter Eric Brown (4-10) unleashed a wild pitch that allowed Lis to move to second. Juan Portes doubled to left to knock in Lis for the 2-0 lead.

Lis tacked on another run with a leadoff homer in the fourth inning. Lis, who went a perfect 4-for-4 yesterday and began Saturday night with three-straight hits, homered for the second consecutive game. He wasn't done, though, as he slammed a two-run shot over the right field wall in the sixth inning for his third homer in two days.

Jose Lugo fired three shutout innings in relief with just one hit to pick up his third save.

Rock Cats second baseman Brian Dinkelman, who was in the game as the left fielder, left the game due to an injured leg after the fourth inning. Dinkelman is among five Rock Cats headed to the Eastern League All-Star Game next Wednesday.
