Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

Lucas Duda and D.J Wabick smashed three hits each, but were stranded after each knock as Binghamton was shut out for the fifth time in 2009 by New Britain 5-0 at New Britain Stadium Saturday night. Righty Eric Brown lost his sixth straight start after giving up five runs in 5.2 innings.

New Britain (46-42) got off to an early start with a two-out rally in the first inning. Erik Lis drove home Brandon Roberts with two outs to give the Rock Cats a 1-0 lead. Roberts had opened the inning with a single before stealing second on Brown and catcher Mike Nickeas with two outs. After Lis advanced to second on a wild pitch, Juan Portes plated him with an RBI double down the line in left to pit New Britain a 2-0 lead.

Lis, who had homered in his last at-bat in Friday's contest, lifted off with a solo homer to start the fourth inning giving the Rock Cats a 3-0 lead. It was the ninth homer that Brown had allowed this season.

However, Lis was not done hitting on the night. He stepped to the plate in the sixth with Luke Hughes on base thanks to a Ruben Tejada error. For the second straight at-bat, Lis homered over the right-field wall giving the Rock Cats a 5-0 margin.

Dating back to Friday's game, Lis reached in eight straight at-bats before he flied out to left in the eighth.

New additions Jose De La Torre and Emary Frederick tossed the final 2.1 innings scoreless after coming up from St. Lucie (High-A) prior to the game to join Binghamton (31-56).

Yohan Pino started his third straight game for the Rock Cats and went a season-best six innings allowing just six hits with a season-high eight strikeouts to pick up his fourth win.

Jose Lugo went the rest of the way for New Britain tossing a season-high three innings with three strikeouts en route to his third save in five chances.

Game three of the four-game set is scheduled for Sunday afternoon. RHP Jake Ruckle (0-1, 4.63) will go for Binghamton and RHP Frank Mata (1-2, 4.41). The game is scheduled for a 1:35 first pitch and the radio broadcast on Newsradio 1290 WNBF begins at 1:20 with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show.
