Hagerstown Suns News Release

Hagerstown, MD: Darren Byrd led his Lakewood BlueClaws to a complete game 3-1 victory over the Hagerstown Suns on Monday.

Byrd (9-10) struck out eight Suns over the course of nine innings, scattering five hits and allowing only one run.

For the Suns, starting pitcher Yunior Novoa (5-12) matched Byrd out-for-out until the 6th inning when the BlueClaws struck for three runs on three hits and an error. A two-run double by catcher Tuffy Gosewich proved to be the difference in the game.

The Suns lone run came on a Francisco Plasencia home run to lead off the bottom of the 6th inning. Plasencia hit a fastball over the right-center field wall for his team-leading 14th home run of the season.

Both starting pitchers were perfect through three innings; Quintin Berry led off the fourth with a single to right field, but Berry was thrown out attempting to stretch his single into a double. Thanks to double plays in both halves of the 5th inning, both teams were retired in order through five innings of play.

The first two hitters were retired in the top of the sixth inning as well, meaning the first 32 hitters were retired in order, a season high for any game involving the Suns.

The Suns will host the Delmarva Shorebirds for a three game series at Municipal Stadium starting on Tuesday at 7:05 PM. For tickets, or for more information, call the Suns at (301) 791-6266 or visit them on the web at www.hagerstownsuns.com.
