
Augusta Rallies for Win over Greenville

Augusta, GA - The GreenJackets (50-20, 36-28) opened a short two game series against the Greenville Drive (29-40, 27-37) on Monday night with a 7-5 come from behind win. David Newton picked up the win in relief and Emmanuel Burriss drove in two runs in the seventh that gave Augusta the 7-5 lead.
Trailing 5-4 entering the bottom of the seventh, Augusta plated three runs on two hits and were helped out a Drive fielding error to take a 7-5 lead. Rohlinger scored the tying run with one out in the frame when he scored from third after Elio Sarmiento hit a ground ball to second and second baseman Chih-Hsien Chang threw wide to shortstop Argenis Diaz as the two tried to turn a double-play. Two batters later and with two outs Burriss connected for a high chopper over the pitching mound for a two-run single giving Augusta the lead.
Newton (4-2) worked 1.1 perfect innings recording two strikeouts. Newton came into the game in the seventh inning in relief of Paul Lussier with the bases loaded and two outs. Newton was able to get the final out and keep the Drive's lead at 5-4.
Augusta took the early lead in the game when Jean came through with a two-out RBI single scoring Matt Weston for a 1-0 lead.
The Drive rallied back for three runs in the third inning off Augusta starter Kevin Pucetas to take a 3-1 lead. Michael Jones tied the game with a two-out RBI single then a fielding error by second baseman Brad Boyer gave the Drive a 2-1 lead. Chang followed with an RBI single to cap off the scoring in the half inning for Greenville.
Pucetas recorded the no-decision allowing three runs, one earned, on five hits over four innings of work.
Greenville added two more runs in the fifth inning off reliever Juan Trinidad when Chang drove in two more runs with a double for a 5-1 lead.
Chris Province (3-2) suffered the loss for Greenville and his second blown save allowing three runs, one earned, on two hits over 2.1 innings.
Osiris Matos pitched a perfect ninth inning for Augusta for his third save with Augusta.
The GreenJackets will play their final regular season home game on Tuesday night with Augusta sending lefty Clayton Tanner (12-7, 2.85) to the hill. The Drive will counter with right-hander Joseph Guerra (2-0, 3.38). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
Game Notes:
Burriss finished 4-for-5 with a two RBIs and raised his average to .327
Bobby Felmy stole two bases in the game and now has 25 on the season.
Augusta opens up the 2007 SAL playoffs on September 5th on the road, then return home for Game 2 of the Southern Division Championship Series on Friday, September 7th.
