Savannah Sand Gnats News Release

SAVANNAH, Ga. - Sand Gnats outfielder Joe Holden has been activated from the disabled list while outfielder Jonathan Sanchez has been transferred to the Gulf Coast League Mets. Also rejoining Savannah is infielder Greg Veloz. Veloz joins the team from the Kingsport Mets and will replace second baseman Hector Pellot who was transferred to Kingsport.

Holden had been on the disabled list since Aug. 19 after he hurt his ankle fielding a ball hit to the gap in Savannah's Aug. 18 game against Kannapolis. While Sanchez has been placed on the Mets' GCL roster, he will continue to travel with the Sand Gnats for the time being.

Pellot, who was the Gnats lone all-star representative this season, was hitting .274 and leading the team with 33 stolen bases in 114 games with the Gnats. Veloz struggled to a .170 average in the first half of the season with Savannah. However, since being demoted at the all-star break, he hit .271 with 18 stolen bases with Kingsport.

Both Holden and Veloz will be active for tonight's game in Columbus. The Gnats return home for the final four games of the season on Friday, Aug. 31 against Columbus. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. For Sand Gnats tickets and a complete schedule, call the Sand Gnats offices at 912-351-9150 or visit www.sandgnats.com.
