
Braves and Riverdogs Split Doubleheader

Rome, GA - The Rome Braves and Charleston Riverdogs split a doubleheader Monday night at State Mutual Stadium. The Riverdogs picked up the victory 6-4 in game one while the Braves bounced back in game two by a 4-3 final.
Charleston took the lead early 1-0 in the first inning of game one on an RBI double by Seth Fortenberry but Rome came back in the bottom of the inning to take the lead 2-0. Travis Jones tripled, Brandon Hicks and Jon Mark Owings walked to start the frame. Tyler Flowers hit a sacrifice fly scoring Jones to tie the game 1-1. A wild pitch by Charleston starter Grant Duff allowed Hicks to cross the plate giving Rome the 2-1 lead. The Riverdogs scored five runs in the fifth highlighted by RBI hits from James Cooper, Seth Fortenberry, and Kevin Smith giving Charleston the lead at 6-2. Rome added runs in the sixth and seventh to close out the scoring with Charleston getting the 6-4 victory. Starter Grant Duff earns the victory (14-8) while William Ramirez gets the loss (0-1).
Game two saw Rome push four runs across the plate in the second inning highlighted by RBI singles from Concepcion Rodriguez, Robert Marcial, and Travis Jones. Charleston closed the gap to 4-3 in the fifth thanks to a two RBI double by Josue Calzado but Rome pitching held on the rest of the way. Brett Butts picks up the win (1-1) while Bryan Villalona is the loser (0-2). Ryne Reynoso came on to close the game in the ninth to earn the save (9).
