
Cumberbatch Steers Captains Past 'Birds in 12

Eastlake, Ohio- Cirilo Cumberbatch delivered the game winning hit with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 12th inning to lift the Captians over Delmarva 4-3 Monday night to complete the four game sweep at Classic Park.
Delmarva took a one run lead in the second inning on a two out RBI single from Brandon Tripp but in the eighth inning Adam Davis singled in the tying run with two outs. Tripp hit a soaring fly out to right to regain the lead in the top of the 10th making it 3-1. Brent Allar walked the first two batters in the bottom of the inning and allowed a two out two RBI double from Jason Denham to send the game to the 11th inning and setting up Cumberbatch's game winning hit in the 11th inning.
Bruce Galloway suffered the loss going a third of an inning allowing two hits and two walks after getting the lead off hitter Adam Davis to fly out. Delmarva starter Wilfrido Perez went five innings allowing one hit, no runs and struck out seven Captains. Lake County starter Hector Rondon allowed one run on two hits, with no walks and struck out eight but also did not favor in the decision. Alan Brech pitched two innings in relief, struck out two and improved to 4-0 on the year.
The Shorebirds have lost five straight and are now 7-11 in 18 extra inning games (leads league). Delmarva falls to 30-33 in the second half and 64-67 overall in 2007. The âBirds open a three game series at Municipal in Hagerstown on Tuesday night and will send Kyle Schmidt (6-8, 3.69 ERA) to the hill against Erik Arnesen (5-7, 5.22 ERA). The Shorebirds are now seven games out with seven remaining.
