HOUSTON, TX - The American Hockey League's 2001-02 Regular Season Champion and Eastern Conference Playoff Champion Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, have announced the recall of Defenseman Sven Butenschon and Right Wing Eric Godard by the Islanders. The Sound Tigers have also announced the addition of Defenseman Mike Gaffney to their roster
Butenschon has posted nine assists and 27 penalty minutes in 15 games with the Sound Tigers, as well as one assist and four penalty minutes in ten games with the Islanders this season. Godard has notched two goals, one assist, three points and a team-leading 91 penalty minutes in 25 games with the Sound Tigers, as well as five penalty minutes in two games with the Islanders this season.
Gaffney, 26, joins the Sound Tigers from the Central Hockey League's Austin Ice Bats where he has recorded one goal, seven assists, eight points and 18 penalty minutes in 20 games this season. The 6'1'' 225-pound native of Worcester, Massachusetts played for Austin, as well as the AHL's Houston Aeros and the Untied Hockey League's New Haven Knights last season. He was the sixth pick, 131st overall, of the Ottawa Senators in the 1994 NHL draft.
The Sound Tigers will continue their six-game road trip with their first-ever meetings with the Aeros tonight at 8 p.m. and tomorrow at 8:30 p.m. in Houston. They will also visit the San Antonio Rampage Saturday at 8 p.m. and the Hamilton Bulldogs next Wednesday, December 18th at 7 p.m. before returning home to host the Lowell Lock Monsters on Saturday, December 21st at 7:05 p.m.
All Sound Tigers' games are broadcast live on "The ZONE" FOX Sports Radio 1300 and at www.soundtigers.com. Road games are also broadcast on WSTC/WNLK 1400/1350.
