Chapman named team capatin for Canadian AHL All-Star Team for 2003 AHL All-Star Classic

Today the AHL announced that Moose defenceman Brian Chapman will serve as the team captain of the Canadian AHL All-Star Team for the 2003 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic at Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland, Maine.

Captains for the American Hockey League All-Star teams are selected by the league in recognition of their outstanding service and leadership to the AHL.

Chapman, 34, has had a productive 2002-03 AHL campaign as he has registered 11 assists in 26 games with a +2 rating. He stands in a second place tie in team scoring for defencemen. The Brockville, ON native has had two multi-point games and started the season with a three assist match against Worcester on October. 11. He played his 442nd AHL game last night against Manchester.

The 34 year-old blueliner has been with the Moose organization for six seasons and for the last four he has held the responsibility of being the team's captain. Chapman holds numerous Moose records - he leads the franchise in games played (413), is in fifth spot in points (152), two back of third place in all-time Moose assists (132) and has played in every single Moose playoff game in history (30).

Chapman has played in 1,050 AHL/IHL games and three NHL games and spent five seasons with the Binghamton Whalers and Springfield Indians (1988-93) before returning to the American Hockey League with Manitoba last season. He was a member of Springfield's 1991 Calder Cup championship team.

The 2003 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic starts on Sunday, February 2, with the 2003 Pepsi AHL All-Star Skills Competition at 8 p.m. ET. The annual All-Star Game follows at 7 p.m. ET on Monday, February 3, and will be televised live in the United States and Canada.
