SPRINGFIELD, MA ... The American Hockey League announced today that Peter and Chris Ferraro of the Portland Pirates and Brian Chapman of the Manitoba Moose will serve as captains for the 2003 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic in Portland, Maine.

Captains for the American Hockey League All-Star teams are selected by the league in recognition of their outstanding service and leadership to the AHL.

Twin brothers Peter and Chris Ferraro have been named co-captains of the PlanetUSA AHL All-Star Team. Both drafted by the New York Rangers in 1992 (Peter in the first round, Chris in the fourth), the 29-year-old Ferraros, natives of Sound Beach, N.Y., were members of the University of Maine's 1993 NCAA championship team before embarking on outstanding careers in the AHL.

Chris Ferraro has tallied 138 goals and 198 assists for 336 points in 314 career AHL contests, and scored the winning goal in both the 1997 and the 1999 AHL All-Star Games. He won an IHL championship with the Chicago Wolves in 2000.

Brian Chapman will serve as captain of the Canadian AHL All-Star Team. Chapman, 34, spent five seasons with the Binghamton Whalers and Springfield Indians (1988-93) before returning to the American Hockey League with Manitoba last season. A member of Springfield's 1991 Calder Cup championship team, Chapman is in his sixth season with the Moose organization, and his fourth as team captain.

Chapman has skated in more than 1,000 regular season games as a professional, including 441 in the AHL. A native of Brockville, Ont., Chapman was drafted by the Hartford Whalers in 1986.

Previous players honored as AHL All-Star team captains include John Slaney, Randy Cunneyworth, Peter White, Peter Laviolette, John Stevens and Jody Gage.

Of the 262 players to take part in the AHL All-Star Classic since 1995, more than 91 percent have competed in the NHL, including Tyler Arnason, Eric Boguniecki, Valeri Bure, Anson Carter, Pavol Demitra, J.P. Dumont, Mike Dunham, Patrik Elias, Martin Lapointe, John Madden, Mattias Norstrom, Steve Sullivan and Jason Williams.
