York Revolution News Release
Brian Burgamy's three-run homer in the top of the seventh highlighted the biggest comeback of the season for the York Revolution, who defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish 8-5 in front of 3,200 fans at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Thursday evening. The sweep is just the second three-game road sweep in franchise history for the Revs, who return home to begin a seven-game homestand on Friday when they host the Long Island Ducks at 6:30 p.m.
The Revs trailed 5-1 after five innings, but scored seven unanswered to come from behind for the big win.
The comeback grew legs with two outs in the sixth inning, as Wilson Batista and Dallas McPherson ripped back-to-back doubles to produce a run, bringing York within 5-2.
York erupted for four runs in the seventh against reliever Mickey Jannis (0-1), who did not record an out. Ruddy Yan sparked the rally with a leadoff walk, and Eric Patterson followed with a single to right, putting runners at the corners. Andres Perez then singled up the middle, plating Yan to make it 5-3. Burgamy, who missed the previous three games due to injury, then launched the game-changing three-run homer to right, giving York a sudden 6-5 lead, their first lead of the night.
The Revs scored two more insurance runs with two outs in the eighth, as Perez (4-for-5, 2 RBI) singled to left-center driving in a run, and Burgamy followed with an RBI triple to right for his fourth RBI of the night.
The Revs fell behind 3-0 in the second, marking the 28th time in 41 games this season that the opponent has scored first. Impressively, York is now 14-14 in those 28 games, thanks to their 15th overall comeback win out of 21 total victories.
The Bluefish took advantage of a one-out error, as all three runs in the second were unearned. Luis Rodriguez opened the scoring with an RBI double to left, Strantrel Smith brought another run home on a groundout to short, and Iggy Suarez rounded out the rally with an RBI single up the middle.
York starter Kris Regas avoided further trouble in the third. Faced with two on and no outs, he retired the middle third of Bridgeport's order in succession on a trio of pop ups, part of a stretch of six consecutive hitters retired to close Regas' four-inning outing, allowing only the three unearned runs.
The Revs broke the ice in the fifth as Patterson hammered a solo home run to right, his fifth home run of the season, and fourth in seven games on the road trip.
Bridgeport increased their lead to 5-1 in the bottom of the fifth on a two-run single by Alexis Gomez. Revs reliever Pedro Liriano (2-0) prevented further damage, however, leaving the bases loaded and working a scoreless sixth to earn the win.
Julio DePaula, Stephen Penney, and Juan Rincon (ninth save) all worked scoreless innings to close out the victory.
York is now 22-19, matching a season-best for the third time at three games over the .500 mark. Their sweep is the first of the season. The only other three-game road sweep in club history occurred in Southern Maryland to begin the second half of the 2011 season.
Finishing the road trip with a 5-2 record, the Revs will now play seven straight home games beginning Friday at 6:30 p.m. when they host the Long Island Ducks. Corey Thurman (3-5, 4.72) faces former Revs lefty James Houser (1-0, 4.02) in the opener. It is "Back to the Future Night" featuring a "modern" 2013 York White Roses Cap giveaway presented by OSS Health to the first 2,000 fans. Tickets are available at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
