Durham NC - Jose Offerman's three-run blast in the top of the ninth inning capped a four-run rally as Norfolk came from behind to defeat the Bulls, 7-4 on Sunday evening at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
With Durham leading 4-3 to start the ninth inning, Sandy Martinez walked to lead off the inning. Pinch runner Julio Ramirez advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Tagg Bozied and scored on a single by Anderson Hernandez to tie the game. Jeff Keppinger doubled to left field, putting runners on second and third to set up Offerman's heroics.
The first five hitters in the Tides' lineup each had two hits as Norfolk racked up 12 hits against the Bulls. Joey Gathright, Darnell McDonald and Sean Burroughs each had two hits for the Bulls, and B.J. Upton stole his International League-leading 26th and 27th bases on the year in the seventh inning. The Bulls made three errors, giving them eight over their last two games, both losses.
LHP Blake McGinley (1-1) picked up the win for the Tides, pitching a scoreless eighth inning with one hit and a strikeout. RHP Jason Childers (0-1) took the loss for the Bulls, going one and a third innings, allowing four runs on three hits and a walk, while striking out one. RHP Edwin Jackson posted a strong outing for Durham, going seven innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits and a walk, while striking out five.
