Charlotte Knights News Release

With the score tied at three in the bottom of the seventh a pick-off play at first base went array for Buffalo and got away from the first baseman bouncing back into the Charlotte bullpen allowing Andy Gonzalez to score all the way from first for the winning run.

Charlotte manager Razor Shines likes to be the aggressor on the baseball diamond. His aggressive outlook paid off Monday afternoon.

With runners on first and third in the fourth inning Charlotte veteran Ernie Young hammered home the first runs of the game after a single into centerfield scored both Knight base runners. Buffalo's Franklin Gutierrez took his time getting the ball back into the infield which in return awarded the aggressive base running of Charlotte as Casey Rogowski hustled all the way around from first to score.

With a 2-0 score Buffalo infielder Jason Alfaro quickly got one run back in the fifth inning after a crushing a home run over the left-field fence to cut the lead in half. Alfaro has been quite successful at Knights Stadium this season. Four of his five home runs have come in Charlotte.

Shines continued to apply the pressure. With two outs in the sixth inning and runners on first and third Shines called for the double steal. Buffalo catcher Einar Diaz threw down to second and had the base runner Rogowski dead to rights but the tag was not applied which allowed Charlotte's Josh Fields to score from third stretching the lead back 3-1.

Charlotte's starting pitcher Charlie Haeger had his knuckleball working well for the majority of the afternoon but ran into some trouble in the seventh. After a leadoff walk Haeger surrendered his second home run of the game to Bisons' Andy Marte knotting the game at 3-3.

The Knights scored off the botched pick-off play making it 4-3, but added a insurance run in the eighth courtesy of Fields going deep for his seventh solo home run of the season.

Farnsworth pitched just one inning but still picked up the win. Closer Javier Lopez came in to get the last out of the eighth inning and finish off the ninth to record his eleventh save of the season.

Knights wrap up the home stand against Buffalo with a matinee businessperson special Monday afternoon with a 12:15 first pitch time
