Durham Bulls News Release
Durham, NC - The Bulls put together a pair of five-run innings as they went on to beat Indianapolis 10-1 in the first game of a twin-bill on Friday night at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Five different Bulls had multi-hit games while Elliot Johnson led the charge with a pair of hits and three RBI as Durham improves to 69-42 on the season.
The Bulls put five on the board in the second inning, as seven of the first eight men reached to start the inning off right-hander Brad Lincoln. A pair of singles by Joe Dillon and Leslie Anderson started the inning, and Dioner Navarro doubled into the right-center field gap to chase both runners home and put Durham on the board. One batter later, Angel Chavez walked and Desmond Jennings followed with an RBI single which plated Navarro. After a passed ball allowed the runners to move into scoring position, Elliot Johnson brought home a run with a single and Justin Ruggiano followed with an RBI double to make it a 5-0 advantage.
The offense rallied again in the fourth inning, getting their first two runners aboard before Elliot Johnson smacked a two-run triple into the left-centerfield gap for his second hit of the game. One batter later, Chris Richard doubled to bring home Johnson as Indianapolis went to their bullpen and brought on Brian Bass. Joe Dillon and Leslie Anderson followed with RBI singles to make it a 9-0 lead. The final run came across when Dioner Navarro's single to center field was bobbled by Alex Presley allowing Dillon to come across with the tenth Bulls run.
Richard De Los Santos earned his 11th victory of the season, allowing one earned run on six hits while walking a pair and striking out three in 5.2 innings of work. His only earned run came when Luke Carlin doubled and eventually scored on a wild pitch, but Joe Bateman came on to record the final out of the inning and tossed a perfect seventh to seal the victory in the opening game.
