The Rochester Red Wings today announced that due to artist production delays the unveiling of Rochester's Mr. Baseball Joe Altobelli's life-sized statue originally scheduled for Friday, August 13th has been moved to Sunday, September 5th.

The unveiling of the life size statue of Alto in his 1971 Red Wings uniform and will still take place in the Walk of Fame area, near the Plymouth Avenue (inside the gates) entrance at Frontier Field.

"While it's disappointing that we needed to push the date back it was more important to allow the artist the extra time necessary to put the finishing touches on a statue that will be here forever. We are all looking forward to a very special evening on September 5 in which we will celebrate Joe's legacy," said Red Wings General Manager Dan Mason.

Joe Altobelli is the only man to be a player, coach, manager, general manager and radio color commentator in the history of the club. Alto's #26 is one of only three retired numbers in the history of the team (#8222 for Morrie Silver and #36 for Luke Easter are the others). Rochester's Mr. Baseball led the Red Wings to Governors' Cup Championships in 1971 and 1974. Alto also managed Cal Ripken, Jr. and the Baltimore Orioles when they last won the World Series in 1983.

The life size bronze statue is being created by Randolph Rose Collection.

Fans that currently hold tickets for the August 13th game and wish to exchange them for the September 5th game must do so at the Frontier Field box office prior to August 13.
