Bullpen fails L-Kings again
August 26, 2005 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Clinton LumberKings News Release
Considering the way that balls fly out of Ameriquest Field in Arlington, the Rangers have to covet a guy who can keep the ball on the ground and that's exactly what they have in 19 year old Michael Schlact.
Schlact (4.23 ERA) was brilliant, allowing just five hits in seven scoreless innings against the Midwest League's best hitting lineup, fanning four without issuing a base on balls and inducing 11 ground ball outs. All five base hits Schlact surrendered were grounders as well. His grounder-to-fly ratio is now slightly better than 2.00 (247 / 123).
But Clinton's bats failed to support the lanky right hander, putting up just one run which came in the bottom of the seventh as Jim Fasano, who went 2-4, singled home Casey Benjamin, who had walked.
Marc Lamacchia (3-2; 4.03) suffered the loss, allowing three runs in one inning of relief.
Though just 1-2 in five August starts, Schlact is showing no signs of wearing out. His ERA for the month is a season-best 3.41 and his K/BB rate over the five August starts is a season-best 20-5.
